Dear all,

The following is the letter from Ms. Yang:

==============================================================================

Having taught Literary Translation: Theories and Practices every semester for
years, I’m very much aware that lots of our students have always had a strong
desire to study Interpretation. However, our department hasn't been able to
offer such a course lately. This regret was voiced again by the students in
my seminar a couple of weeks ago.

I've been actively searching for a qualified guest speaker since then, and am
glad to say I've found one. The speaker, Afra Tan (譚淑君), was an outstanding
FLLD graduate in 2002, your 學姊! She was awarded a scholarship and came back
with a Master's degree in Conference Interpretation from the Monterey Insti-
tute of International Studies last May. She is currently working at Formosa
TV (民視), and is responsible for editing/translating/interpreting foreign
news.

She has accepted my invitation to give you all a speech/workshop on December
18, 2006, from 4:10 to 7:00 p.m., at L004 (for the first two hours,) and
Language Lab 2 (for real practice between 6-7 p.m.)

After the speech/workshop, you will be able to:
1. Learn the differences between simultaneous interpretation and consecutive
interpretation and their applications;
2 Practice on basic skills such as memory training, paraphrasing, note-taking
system, shadowing, etc;
3. Learn the fostering process of professional interpreters and the job market
in Taiwan, and
4. Gain advice on how to pursue an interpretation program.

The speech/workshop will be open to all, including faculty and staff. It's
going to be a very worthwhile experience for all interested people. Don't miss
the great chance, if you are interested in Interpretation at all!!
